Update: Operation Payment Express Success

Many of you have heard about Operation Payment Express, eXp’s initiative to speed up commission payments to our agents and create standard payment procedures. One of our commitments was to initiate payment on 90 percent of core transactions within one business day of closing by the end of June. We have great news to share today …

We reached — and are sustaining — our goal more than one week early!

We also learned a lot along the way, and here’s what we’re doing about it:

  • Created a new team focused on driving velocity of payments by improving the settlement and disbursement authorization processes.
  • Hired four settlement specialists and two disbursement authorization specialists (now there are three!).
  • Enabled team agility to handle end-of-month transaction volume.
  • Now we are looking at other ways to improve commission payment speed and accuracy.

Thank you for your patience and feedback. We look forward to sharing more progress in the coming weeks.

eXp World Construction Improvements!

One of the great things about eXp World is that we get gleaming new buildings without ever enduring scaffolding and construction hats.

Tech Outpost: We moved from the temporary space to a new, super cool Tech Outpost building where you can get tech support or meet with the support team. It’s straight ahead and on your right when you land in the world.

The new multi-story Tech Outpost!

Accounting:
There is a brand new accounting building where you can talk to the team or grab a private meeting space. From the Welcome Area take an immediate left and follow the path, you will see it straight ahead.

Accounting’s new building has plenty of private meeting spaces.

Transaction Team:
The lobby has been redesigned with thoughtfully positioned chairs and tables. Come with your questions or sit for a spell.

The Transaction Team has a new lobby, but also check out the upstairs view.

New-User Landing Spot:
First-time users will land right by the information desk so they can immediately ask questions.

3D Voice: Can you hear me now?! Not unless you’re in my line of sight! Now only avatars in your line of sight can hear you. This is super helpful in large spaces and multi-floor buildings.

Performance Improvements: Now furniture loads as you approach and you also can adjust preferences to lower the distance a user can see (click on the three gears in the upper right, choose preferences and then low draw distance).

If you don’t these updates, try logging out and back in. There may be a slightly longer start up, but then come in and take a stroll around the new and improved grounds.

Defining Our Values

Founder and CEO Glenn Sanford Introduces eXp Core Values at Recent Shareholder Event

By Mitch Robinson, SVP, Marketing & Communications

As a brand new employee attending our recent shareholder event in San Diego, there was much for me to learn and absorb. New co-workers to meet, engaging with agents and state brokers to get important feedback, and getting a sense of our culture and values.

Previously Assumed Values

So, I was especially happy when Founder and CEO Glenn Sanford came to the stage to share and formalize the core values of eXp. Glenn shared that he has spent a lot of time developing these values; speaking with staff and agents, and obviously doing a lot of soul searching as he thought about where eXp has been and where we are going.

As a new member of the team, it helped for me to learn about what were our previously assumed core values. They made sense, but as companies grow, values often need to be adjusted.

Glenn then shared 3 “big” values that incorporate all we do, followed by 6 cultural values. In the coming weeks and months you’ll learn much more about these shared values, but I’m of the belief that when values are on the money, they don’t need much of a definition at all.

Take a look below at our values and then skip over to our private Facebook page where we ask how you define and incorporate these important eXp values. Collaborate by sharing your transparent thoughts!

eXp Growth = More Resources For Agents

New Roles to Assist with Everything from Production to Attracting New Agents to the Company

By Jason Gesing, Chief Executive Officer, eXp Realty, & Kathy Gordon Vice President of Brokerage Operations, eXp Realty

Simply put, the growth of eXp has been astounding. Take a look at our first quarter 2017 results and among the highlights, you’ll see that as of May 12, we had more than 3400 agents across 43 states compared to 842 agents at the beginning of 2016. One of our board members recently described eXp as a “rocket ship”.

When you have a rocket ship accelerating, it’s important to make sure “mission control” is staffed up and able to handle all the complexities of a growing effort. And that’s just what we’ve been working on at eXp. We’re making smart hires, improving our processes and also focusing on how we help agent-owners with their daily needs and ways to bring other agents into our special company. Important areas we are focusing on include making sure the state broker has the ability to:

  • Provide increased transactional support and more time to answer questions in a timely manner.
  • Deliver increased levels of compliance resources and training.
  • Stay involved with legal updates affecting agent transactions.

Kathy Gordon,
VP Broker Operations

In order to accomplish this and more, we are making some changes to the State Broker role as well as adding a new position, “Regional Development Leader” (see below). Previously, each state had one “State Broker” and that individual had to wear the mantle of all functions within the state. This included growth and attraction, as well as coaching, training, helping agents with difficult transactions and all coordination with the state commissions and boards. For one person to assume so many responsibilities was often a real struggle. Now, we will be able to split the growth and attraction processes from the operations processes which will allow better focus and intensity on each function.

New State Administrative Broker Role:

The State Administrative Broker (SAB) continues to be responsible for the successful administration of eXp Realty’s brokerage operations in each state. They are accountable for all operational elements necessary to comply with individual state license law, REALTOR® association membership and MLS participation, along with the transaction review process, compliance training, and the eXp Risk Management program. With a growing agent base and associated responsibilities, the SAB will not have direct responsibility for attracting new agents to eXp.Going forward, all SABs are employees of eXp and will be supported by and report to Kathy Gordon, VP, Brokerage Operations or our new Director, Eastern Brokerage Operations (see below).

State State Administrative Broker State State Administrative Broker

Maine Open Virginia Open

Massachusetts Patrick Keeler Washington, DC Open
Michigan Cheryl Yost Wisconsin Mary Lausted

Director, Eastern Brokerage Operations:

With brokerage operations now in 43 states, this new company role will assist State Administrative Brokers and work on other related needs. SABs in the eastern half of the country (with the exception of Florida) will be supported by and report to this new position. We are happy to announce that Chris Riley has accepted this position which will report to Kathy Gordon.

New Regional Development Leader Role:

As our SABs are consumed with important daily operational responsibilities, we are adding a Development Leader to many areas of the country. The actual title will include the geographical area of the country such as “Northeast Development Leader.” This new role will help agents in a number of ways including:

  • A dedicated leader who understands and appreciates the nuances of local markets.
  • Increased support in attraction efforts through someone solely focused on growth irrespective of revenue share lines.
  • The ability to assist agents with more opportunities to attract agents to eXp
  • Support for live events.

Jason Gesing,
Chief Executive Officer

This role will be responsible for enhancing sustainable growth, productivity, and cultural aspects of eXp Realty within a defined geographic region. An important aspect of this will be assisting current eXp agents by conducting attraction appointments and leading group attraction sessions, both live and in the Cloud. Unlike the SAB, the people filling these positions are all eXp agents who have demonstrated a high level of leadership (some are former State Brokers) and all will remain as independent contractors to eXp, working closely with Jason Gesing, CEO, eXp Realty and Vikki Bartholomae, President, eXp Realty. We will announce these names shortly. In the future, a related role for larger states will also be added.

Market Relations Ambassador:

Previously referred to as our Growth Support Associate, we’ve renamed the position held by Sam Rodriguez to better clarify his vital role in helping our agents present the eXp opportunity, build relationships, answer questions, and ultimately guide new agents towards joining the company.

Jason Gesing is the Chief Executive Officer of eXp Realty, the Company’s real estate brokerage division. Kathy Gordon is Vice President of Brokerage Operations for eXp Realty. Feel free to share your thoughts with them! Reach Jason at [email protected] and Kathy at [email protected].

U.S. Senate Candidate Could Be Selling Your House

BELLINGHAM, WA – In this business you never know who you’re going to meet. The latest addition to eXp Realty, LLC’s Massachusetts office under Broker Jason Gesing is independent write-in candidate for U.S. Senate, Bill Cimbrelo.

Although the election is a little less than two months away, running as an independent has meant that his campaign has been largely under the radar of mainstream media – translation, few donations and few volunteers. “I had hoped that my message would transcend the millions collected by my opponents, but it’s time for a reality check and time to move on.”

Bill is a degreed Chemist from UMass-Boston and has had extensive experience in industrial water purification, but ultimately he gravitated to the home remodeling business where he still holds a current license as a Construction Supervisor (AKA General Contractor).

As Director of Operations of Ready PROS, Inc., a company he started with his wife in 2009, he works closely with homeowners, commercial accounts and has extensive dealings with REO clients. “The real estate license was just a natural adjunct to everything we already do and I anticipate they’ll be a fair amount of cross-pollination.”

Previously, Bill worked with a real estate office and had some early success but was never crazy about the long trips back and forth to his broker’s office, located on the opposite side of his closest major city.

“eXp Realty is brilliant! It provides an incredible amount of support and flexibility. Its state-of-the art virtual meetings and paperless office makes it very GREEN and it meshes perfectly with today’s lifestyles for both agents and clients alike.”

Perhaps Bill won’t make it to the Senate, but he sure has our vote.

Innovative Real Estate Company Opens in Maryland

BELLINGHAM, WA – In an era where the number of actively practicing real estate agents is dwindling, Rich Johnson, Esq., real estate lawyer and now principal broker for eXp Realty in Maryland, argues that it’s not the market that is the problem, but the marketing (or lack thereof) used by agents that prevents them from achieving success.

“This is one of the main reasons I decided to partner with eXp Realty and bring this business model to Maryland,” says Johnson. “It’s the perfect combination of using web 3.0 internet marketing for lead generation, buyer acquisition, listing distribution, business management and growth, without sacrificing quality or customer satisfaction.”

Johnson started brokering real estate in 2005 while representing real estate investors and developers through his law practice; this lead to the creation of ESQ Realty, an independent local brokerage that grew in the central Maryland area.

In late 2008, Johnson followed the market and shifted the firm’s focus to short sales, foreclosures and distressed real estate. During this time he witnessed many of the “big box” real estate firms close because their business model contained a large overhead for physical space and outdated marketing that was too expensive and ineffective for sustaining profitability.

“The only reasons why we survived the storm was because almost all of our marketing and lead generation was done online, our agents engaged the active state of the foreclosure market and our overhead was extremely low. Most of our business was online and not reliant on traditional marketing techniques to generate sales.”

After talking with Jason Gesing and Glenn Sanford, who Johnson calls, “two of the brightest minds in real estate,” Johnson says, “it made obvious sense that the next step for us would be to join forces and bring eXp to Maryland so that other agents throughout the state could benefit from the training, technology and forward-thinking online business strategies.”

While eXp Maryland’s business management, training and back-end systems will be 100% cloud based, agents will have access to conference rooms, a training facility and offices located in Columbia.

In addition to the ability to conduct business from home, eXp provides its agents with a revenue share plan that is second to none in the industry. Unlike other revenue share plans that distribute revenues to agents based on the profitability of the market or after overhead is paid, eXp Realty distributes profits to agents regardless of profitability and on a “gross” basis. This means agents get higher residuals for recruiting fellow agents and are directly rewarded for bringing in quality agents that close deals.

“This is truly an exciting time for us; we have joined the trend setters of the real estate industry,” says Johnson. “As technology grows and is used to eliminate the barriers of communication and improve the dissemination of information, eXp will be in a position to leverage this technology to create better agents and provide more efficient, high quality services to their border-less communities.”

eXp Realty has agents in 25 states and has effectively eliminated traditional brick and mortar environments (and the costs associated with them) in favor of a fully-immersive, 3-D, virtual office environment where agents, brokers and staff collaborate across state borders while learning and transacting business from anywhere in the world.

eXp Realty Expands to Southern California

BELLINGHAM, WA – San Diego broker, Rick Winkler, has announced that he will be heading up the expansion and growth of eXp Realty in Southern California. Winkler is one of San Diego’s top real estate brokers and will be focusing on the areas south of Bakersfield including Orange County, Riverside County, San Diego, L.A. Basin, San Bernardino and Palm Springs.

After more than a decade in the real estate industry, including four years as a Keller Williams team leader and four years of owning his own brokerage, Winkler was looking for something more out of his brokerage. Once he discovered eXp Realty, “I knew in 30 seconds that I would join.”

“I am thrilled to bring southern California agents into a company whose systems are forward-thinking, costs are fair and that has a great opportunity for residual income.”

CEO Glenn Sanford expressed his optimism about the company’s growth in Southern California. “In the life cycle of every successful company, there are certain acquisitions of talent that really pave the way for the future,” Sanford said. “Rich Winkler is a sterling example of the leadership and vision that all growing agencies need. I couldn’t be happier about his decision to lead us in the San Diego area.”

“From an agent’s perspective, you really can’t do any better,” Winkler said. “eXp represents the resurrection of the real estate industry.”
